My Sun
Soul | R&B
I was around ten years old when my mom and grandmother took me to my very first trip to the cinema — the brand-new theatre, which had just opened right next to our home in Baku — to see Chris Columbus's "Stepmom". The film moved me deeply, but one moment stayed with me more than anything else: Susan Sarandon and the kids suddenly breaking into dance — joyful, carefree, against all odds — to the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". I fell in love with that song instantly — and it became one of my all-time favorites.
Years later, having found a love of my own, I wanted to write a song that held that same spirit. A song about two people drawn to each other beyond distance, beyond circumstance. From the moment "My Sun" was written, it was always meant to be a duet.
Then came the voices.
Internationally recognized, Grammy-nominated recording artist Mishell Ivon brings a rich blend of Soul, Funk, House, Jazz and Gospel — a voice that moves effortlessly between intimacy and power.
Alongside her, Jerome Brooks, Jr. brings the warmth of classic New York soul shaped by stages from Carnegie Hall to the Apollo.
Together, they don't just sing "My Sun." They meet inside it.
